Here are my five favorite things I wrote in 2018
My favorite of the year might be the one I wrote near its start about Ahed Tamimi, the controversial Palestinian activist, for the Forward: Explainer: Who Is Ahed Tamimi? (Jan 2018).
I’m also proud of a piece I wrote for Tricycle about Burmese resistance to the Myanmar genocide of the Rohingya: Where Are The Righteous Burmese? All Over The World (March 2018).
Another piece I wrote for Tricycle took up the question of civility and members of the Trump administration getting kicked out of restaurants:
Staying Civil For Your Own Sanity (June 2018).
When a leading Tibetan Buddhist Lama wrote a letter of praise to Aung San Suu Kyi defending her from charges of aiding and abetting genocide, Maung Zarni and I wrote a response: An Open Letter to Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche from a Burmese Buddhist Activist (Nov 2018).
Lastly, I wrote a review of two new books by or about Leonard Cohen that dropped in October: Leonard Cohen Under A New Light (Nov 2018).
On this platform, the following were my five favorites:
The piece I like the most: a Heideggerian contemplation on the end of late capitalist paradise illustrated by my friend Jenny Ritter: Being Staying Human
A Marxist digression: What is Metabolic Rift?
About Israeli village demolitions and deportations of refugees: 17 Years After Durban, Is Zionism Racism After All?
About the Great Return March in Gaza: Heartbreak in Gaza
